The main task of the project is to use museum means to reveal holistically such a cultural phenomenon as the Roerich family was in the 20th century. On the one hand, it is important to focus attention on the concept of “family”, that is, to show the origins, environment and context of formation and development of the personalities of Nikolai Konstantinovich, Elena Ivanovna and their sons Yuri and Svyatoslav. On the other hand, it is necessary to emphasize the personal contribution of each of them to the development of world culture. An important accent in the exposition is the theme of St. Petersburg.
The stylistic solution is based on the fact that the historical interior is preserved and modern equipment is delicately inserted into it. This allows the past and present to be separated visually. The basis for the color concept of the museum was formed by the existing interior elements (doors, portals, ceilings, wooden wall panels) that are made in dark colors. In order to level out the contrast between the light walls and the finishing elements, the walls of the museum are painted in a gray-brown shade, the lightness of which varies in the individual rooms depending on the task. This creates a unified background against which the exhibits and graphic design of the exhibition will stand out with the help of accent lighting and color. The color of the display equipment, information kiosks, furniture, etc. is in keeping with the walls of the museum.
The main idea in the artistic design of the museum exhibition is to reveal the personality of each family member, to create an illusion of their presence and communication with visitors. To do this, the quotes of the heroes are used in the design of the walls, as well as their animated shadows.
