The main task of the new exposition is to go deep into the history of the Battle of Leningrad and the Siege of Leningrad through the theme of Victory: at Leningrad (1944) and the general Victory in 1945 with coverage of the “Leningrad case” (introductory hall), and to reveal the “price” of Victory in the Great Patriotic War through an account of human heroism and tragedy of defenders and residents of besieged Leningrad.
The main feature – documentality and imagery. The visitor somehow gets into the atmosphere of a documentary black and white film, against which exhibits, artifacts and documents stand out clearly, each having its own unique color and texture. In this way, exhibit solutions do not prevail, but rather help to highlight and emphasize the significance and uniqueness of each object. They only organize the space. The main color and texture solution is granite and concrete (from light gray to dark gray), designed to create a neutral basis for the display of original exhibits. The room is complemented by large-scale projections, embedded in the fabric of the room’s architecture and exposition. A multifunctional lighting and sound system is also used.
